Welcome to Nunthorpe!

Hi! How are you all?

It’s been a little while since I last updated this blog – and so much has been going on.

As a community we’ve really pulled together through the Covid crisis and it’s been an absolute pleasure to help run our volunteer relief effort. Thank you so much to those who’ve taken part, helping provide our neighbours with a vital lifeline.

We’re also a big step closer to our new GP surgery, with more information set to be released very soon. The launch of a huge community consultation is also imminent, taking on board how you’d like to see Nunthorpe develop. So many people have helped move these crucial things along including Simon Clarke MP, the parish council, community council and other community leaders.

Today I wanted to update you on my Welcome to Nunthorpe pack – which was one thing that I promised to introduce prior to my election last May. The first draft is ready for you to download and digest! I’d also love your input to help improve the pack.

The pack is designed to help new residents navigate our area and it’s also available to current residents too. If you’d like a physical copy then please just drop me a line at mieka_smiles@middlesbrough.gov.uk.

I think I’ll leave it there for now.

Take care,

Mieka.

  1. Guisborough Road
The temporary closure of access onto Guisborough Road at Swan’s Corner has been a Godsend to Nunthorpe, the use of Guisborough Road as a morning and evening race track by the Rat Runners to get to and from Dixon’s Bank has been shut down making the road much safer for children going to and from Nunthorpe Academy.
Maybe it is time to think about the future, and taking action to make Guisborough Road from Nunthorpe shops to Swan’s Corner ”Residents and Local Access only”.
Will it take the death or serious injury to a Nunthorpe Academy child before the daily spectacle of Guisborough Road being used race track by Rat Runners is ended?
